i think is to late, but: this board as a jumper to deactivate on board vga (almost all series of supermicro has), about the sound, graphics hard mostly has (trough hdmi), so don't need a audio card , or even better a usb (that came with usb headphones), about pci-e usb 3.0 almost all card has a internall connector (for front usb 3.0) and 2 usb 3.0 for the back. about the procesor, the most value price/performance is the x5680 (6/12) shipper then 5690 and bettter than 5675. and if you like this plataform, "penguin" on ebay has a nice dual cpu coolers (water), but need DIY skills. many thank for your videos, are great for comparison (as you can see a build a lot of 1366 (and 1156) xeon's plataforms. with ecc ttriple channel, works like a charm.

Can I get those pulled Xeon mounting plates? I only have Xeon style mounting brackets so I need something to screw them into on ASUS P6X58-E WS which only has the wide hole unlike early Rampage that had 2 sets of holes for LGA775 spacing. These top bolt are different threading from my usual 2011-3 X mounts. A lot of older ThermalRight used the "X" bracket to use you existing backplate or they gave you one.

  3. Lonnie Beal says:

Hate to burst your guys' bubble, go to passmark software benchmarks. This dual 5677 barely beats out a Ryzen 1500 and doesn't beat the 1600 and up. You're wasting your money if you buy into one of these.

Another solution to the lack of usb ports (rather than the hub) would be to install a USB Slot bracket that would utilize a usb header. It would cleanly sit in the empty slot above the gpu.

That said, if this board lacked the additional header for this, I understand TYS's choice… but I think I see that it has one available when I pause the video.

I know this is a year old, but still wanted to mention it just in case people are resurrecting their own older salvaged but competent motherboards and came across this video. cheers and good work!

I need a 2nd pair of LGA2011-3 retention kits to put on my LGA1366 to share same thread pattern of my 2066/2011 mounting hardware. THe hole spacing is same but they changed the threads on us. Where can I buy for cheep?

I hesitated buying BL3, I run an e1270 v3 64 gig RAM and a humble 1050 ti. No probs with high detail at 60 fps+. My mate's new I7 with a 1060 and 16 gig still has issues. Can't explain why, I do share 20 gig of RAM with the card. I'd love to know ……..if someone can explain what's going on.

  7. Shizuko Mori says:

Terrible cooler mounts, board distortion guaranteed. I, on the contrary, put a backplate from the server, for good rigidity. Any cooler from socket 2011 will do

  8. RichezPlays says:

Okay i have the same setup that you have here and i have no problems with it booting at all with offboard graphics and i am using a gtx 980ti hybrid installed and also with a system of this setup alot of games arent numa aware so you tend to have to disable one whole processor in task manager set affinity some games work fine without it changed but other times the fps is drastically reduced into the 20fps range

  9. Brett Prior says:

2fps is margin of error… that right there is a gpu flexing as much as it can, without cpu bottleneck in either scenario… x58 or new. I do love seeing this truth being told. So many folks think you need new stuff or you just can't get by. Steve over at GN just did a completely tilted, BS, Haswell 2x Xeon build, of which failed miserably. But it was set up to fail… It performed worse than this dual x58 rig, and that should tell quite a bit. He was just pushing the agenda of "nothing comes close to new" … saying that it just isn't worth it to do anything other than spending the money on the newest thing.

Hey! I appreciated your effort but i have one question: would this cpu and mainboard bundle function well as dedicated streaming pc? BEst regards and love from germany!

  11. hjq0023 says:

8 core processor is kind of like a budget processor in 2020. So whats the point of going out of your way to get 2 4-core processor…all these videos over dual motherboards are kind of dumb

  12. SokMunky says:

I love these non-conventional builds. Keep it up man. I am excited to see what happens when the next sockets come out so we can play around with the C422 Xeons. I think Intel got smart and stopped allowing Xeons to run on their desktop chipsets. It will still be fun to see what you can do with the next wave in a few years though.

You Rule Bry ! I just subscribed but have been watching you in stealth mode 4 a while now. Love the way you squeeze the most value out of the older tech, especially the Xeon and dual Cpu stuff, X58 / 79 / 99. You don't edit out the trouble shooting, even giving tips and work a rounds. My favorite tech channel 4 sure !
It would be cool to see you bring some old gear back to useful life using Linux and free / open source software, And then maybe some video's of basic audio and video editing with some bench marks on rendering and file transfer performance. Showing how someone could get into streaming w older hardware and free software. Just some Idea's. Keep it up brother, your like the only tech forum we can trust to speak truth brother ! We need ya.

Late to the comments but try dropping the qpi bandwidth. When I have my mobo using 6.4 gt/s it runs ram in dual channel. Dropping it to 5.4 or whatever made it not boot. 4.8 gt/s ran it in triple channel and the cpu benched higher for me. However, mine has two chipsets and not one. I am not sure if that helps me with avoiding bottlenecks with fsb or not since it splits the pcie slots between CPUs on mine with that according to the block diagram. But yeah, it can still run triple channel

Thanks for this video, but I want to ask you something : Do you have a video like this with a X5675 OC using a RTX 2080 TI in 4K resolutions ? Or someone know who have a benchmark in 4K with this hardware ?
