Finally a car with Google maps built in, I must admit I haven't looked at Volvo for an EV, and after hearing the price I never will, but all the others have their own sat nav (haven't looked what Teslas have as they're too expensive aswell), my wifes Fiesta sat nav is garbage, and connecting to the phone to do it isn't any better, but Ford don't do BEVs until the Mondeo gets here, lets hope that's cheaper than these rippoff prices.

  2. United-We-Stand says:

That grill is terrible, would rather have a normal grill so that it blended in with other cars, I don't want a piece of plastic stuck on the front of my car to tell everyone I've got an electric car ! plus it looks like an afterthought which it is ! good to see some manufacturers are sticking with conventional grills. 👍

  3. Saint Etienne says:

Who is going to buy a car like this for £60k? So it will be leased and after 3yrs then what?
Either it will lose a shed load of money to appeal to the domestic market or they will stockpile unwanted electric cars. We'll look back at this as a huge mistake

  4. Martynas Grigaliunas says:

With this range in 2020-202.. volvo already is so behind.
Tesla Y is the choice at the moment..
For electric car interior or exterior details i think are not most important things. If there is no good range and on a cold day you are afraid to drive with not fully charged battery, then it sucks..
I am not talking about charging network..

  5. Krane says:

I think this Volvo is not yet ready for prime-time –300 mile range or go home. Anyway, a premium car with instruction stamped into the body? Like having GAS embossed into the C-pillar of your gasoline vehicle.

  6. Derek Eadie says:

I don’t understand how the government expects folks to start using EV’s when they are so rediculously expensive. I completely understand batteries are expensive to manufacture and raw materials likewise but I just can’t see the uk being ready for the conversion in 2030 when they just cost so much and like any battery will eventually cease to be effective. The re-sale values alone make these kind of vehicles unrealistic in terms of standards of living in the uk. Is anyone else feeling the same. Currently you don’t get much from cars priced £30k and now for similar spec you are spending double? I can’t fathom how it’s sustainable for the buyer.

  7. Viktor says:

In Norway the price starts from £42000, seems like it for some reason is much more expensive in the UK, usually it´s the other way around

  8. Jarle Nygård says:

Why do you guys keep hammering about "how far on one charge"? Not very many drive for more than 3 hours in one go anyway. And how many drive > 150 miles on a regular basis? For long trips you need to look at the combination of range, charging speed and charging network. The e-tron for example charges really, really fast, so even if the range in just OK, it does not matter that much… Look at Bjørn Nyland and his 1000km challenge. That's how you properly measure long distance travel.

  9. Teddy Zhai says:

Spending 60k on xc40? Ok, with Android auto, But still,,,, why wouldn't i go for model3, which is the benchmark all other models should compare against.

  10. John Gaudet says:

This maybe expensive but Volvo products have always been unrated for luxury safety and reliability. I have a 2020 Volvo, I wouldn't drive anything else.

  11. John Gaudet says:

I'm glad to here battery pack and motor is shared with Polestar, It will give a clear indication of reliability of these EVs. I'm thinking of possibly upgrading my Volvo in the future for a Polestar 2.

  12. Rob Chambers says:

I don't understand the obsession with range. How many people drive far enough to exceed the range regularly? Most people drive 10/20 miles to work and then wake up with a full fuel "tank". And, tbh how many households buying this car won't already have another vehicle, (probably ICE) anyway? There are just as many differentiators in an electric car as a traditional one. How many xc40 petrol reviews mention a Kia as a competitor? I fear motoring journalists are going to make themselves less relevant by not reviewing the real world use cases and instead concentrating on why this electric car isn't a petrol car. A criticism of the industry, not this specific review.

  13. Jordan Sage says:

Would love to get this – had a preorder at one point – but for the price it's too little range, too slow, and cannot compare to Tesla for self-driving capabilities… Would really like to get something other than a Tesla though…

  14. ked Duff says:

In this world the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, with that in mind these price tags are luxury prices. Almost all EV's are in the luxury price range. That's why the average Joe ain't buying them.

  15. Jack Ryder says:

If the suspension are hard as tesla 3, and it is noisy cabin. Its a failure.
I drive lexus, love the soft and quite cabin. Waiting to see what lexus will bring in the market

  16. Rick9482 says:

IMO, not a very good review. Just didn't cover enough of the interior.
For that range it's way overpriced!
I like the Polestar more but their business model is just idiotic.

  17. rodgrod1999 says:

Please stop comparing big SUV with hatchbacks and sedans in range. We don't do it with petrol cars, so why should we do it with EV's? If you buy a SUV you know that it's not great range your getting

  18. GusBan says:

Worth remembering this is the loaded 1st edition, the other main stream versions will be less expensive, especially with a single motor spec.

Audi e-tron is the class above in terms of size and more expensive so not directly comparable.

  19. Anonymous PDG says:

Although it's not an SUV, the Polstar 2 is a real banana skin as it's the same running gear, same battery, range and performance etc but and here's the thing, it's over £10k cheaper? I drive an XC40 1st edition and love it but honestly, why spend the extra money??

  20. Disclosureteam Liverpool says:

Being an XC90 driver I view safety as the top priority when choosing a car, not miles pr charge or infotainment systems. Crash tests results and safety scores + safety features were not even mentioned here.

  21. K V says:

Why so impressed everytime with 0-60 time for such an heavy suv. It is not impressive at all considerinh the fact that the model x performance does 0-60 in 2,6 seconds.

  22. Huw Williams says:

Don't use those menus on the move! It's quite unnecessary. There are steering wheel controls and voice control for all adjustments you need to make on the move.
